Take the pledge to be fabulous at Crystal Ball this year.
The protesters that we’ve seen all week spreading a message of hate in front of the FAB have indicated that they will be present at this year’s Crystal Ball. Because of the hurtful nature of their message and the attention that it could incite from K College students and outside media, we want to encourage our community to think about how we stand together in FABULOUS peaceful protest of this hurtful message.
Crystal Ball is a time for us to celebrate diversity and equality amongst all people by subverting gender norms and celebrating drag culture. We encourage you to be yourself. You don’t have to dress in drag if you don’t feel comfortable doing so. But please be a positive representation of the spirit of this event and don’t use it to perpetuate negative stereotypical gender norms.
This is an alcohol-free event. Ultimately it is your choice whether or not you drink before this event, but we encourage all students to consider their personal role in depicting a positive image of our community at Crystal Ball, one of the largest and most celebrated events on campus.
Please be fabulous at Crystal Ball this year by:
1. Dressing FABULOUSLY in the spirit of Crystal Ball.
2. Being RESPONSIBLE about alcohol consumption. This is an alcohol free event.
3. Ignoring the hatred of the protesters should they choose to be present at the entrance of this event and being a FABULOUS representative of Kalamazoo College.
Be yourself.
Be respectful.
Ignore the hate.
LIVE FABULOUSLY.

Bon Iver is oiling the weathervane, which has been squealing in these spring winds and frightening the dog. The sky behind him is richly red, an odd color, unsettling. We know the storm will rattle the house tonight and we will hold each other close as the trees groan and toss. He calls down to me from his perch on the roof. ‘I don’t need this old rooster to tell direction,’ he says. ‘You’re my compass. You’re my everything.’
Barfing and crying.
